I’ll add to that comment of mine in the article –

I’m as dedicated as ever to music’s expression in itself – that is, without words or narrative or visuals. The inner workings of music itself are powerful, both in motion and structured, and full of expressions that transcend verbal or visual language, in myriad and sometimes profoundly moving ways. However, I believe it’s also true that music can serve to very powerfully transmit stories and ideas and to connect those more directly with emotions. And I’ve seen that many people, including myself, are actively creative in multidisciplinary ways and the arts are intrinsically intertwined. Despite the specialization valued in the past century-plus, I think artistically-inclined people interact with the world in a way that is a constant processing of life experience into new experience that we create. And since we have sight, hearing, touch, taste, smell, spatial awareness, and verbal language, we are naturally likely to be creative in many ways, and to constantly engage in that way to live happily.

Interdisciplinary endeavors such as AMOC* are about synergy and collaboration and putting upfront all the ways that people are being creative. I hope these kids get involved in all the arts and make them part of the fabric of their lives, for themselves and others.
